Soul Searching

Soul Searching

We forage into the unknown
mapping the dips and hallows of each other’s forms
drawing gasps and strained sounds
from crevices in opulent flesh

Our souls wink at each other in the blackness
peeking out from underneath the surfaces that trap them
wicked and glittering
drawn forth from within us to surround us
with their sultry warmth

The inversion creates delicious tension
that climbs and crescendos
until they surge up our scintillating spines
only to suddenly drop back into our centers
hot and heavy with an ephemeral gravity

Your sweet whispers
rush on wings of baited breath
to hang heavily between us in the dark
collecting dew from our intermingled moist bodies

Once high pitched in their feverish, fervent movement
they now lay limp and languid
luxuriating in the low lamp light
that encloses us like a cocoon

But we are content to stay there
wool gathering and drifting into other states of consciousness
while wrapped in one another’s sticky and sweat slicked skins
eventually slipping softly, slowly
into slumber
